Interview tips - Tell me about yourself…

Interview Tips

“So many people out there have no idea what they want to do for a living, but they think that by going on job interviews they’ll magically figure it out. If you’re not sure, that message comes out loud and clear in the interview.” – Todd Bermont

Interviewer walks in and starts asking the routine interview questions, but then they ask, “Tell me about yourself”.

We all dread that question at interviews – because how exactly should you answer? Should you talk from your CV or share personal information and risk talking yourself out of your dream job.

The simple answer is, your interviewer is interested in ascertaining if you are the right candidate for the job. They don’t need to know about your family and hobbies.

You should be ready to give a concise version of your career history that highlights your achievements. Tell them about the victories that impacted your employer’s bottom-line. Share what you would like to achieve in future and how the position you are interviewing for can help you achieve your goals.

Remember, an interview isn’t a one-way conversation. Go in prepared with your own set of questions and ask about the challenges that the company faces and how you would be able to contribute.
